The Love Local Food blog .. the latest!
Butterflies are beautiful and help us to see the environmental health of a locality. We can see them in the field margins and feeding from the plants that our organic farming practise encourages. Their life cycle transformations from egg to caterpillar chrysalis to butterfly is a magical metamorphosis. I found this quote ...
Conserving butterflies will improve our whole environment for wildlife and enrich the lives of people now and in the future.
So it was rather lovely to be using butterflies (I know .. it looks more dragonfly like!) as the theme for my granddaughters' 3rd birthday party. A simple bundle of netting took us all on a journey from egg to wings and wonder shared. There are certain key images that capture us as we grow and butterflies are certainly one of those. As an educator my challenge is to find ways to build deeper on this fascination and take us on a journey to more understanding. Looking next then on how to make this butterfly bundle part of our education work.
