Love Local Food - local food deliveries around Exeter

Everyone at Love Local Food believes that developing an understanding of where food comes from is an essential part of education for both children and adults. We want you to cross the farm gate and discover what is happening on the land and in the barn! Educational visits are one way that this can happen.

Farm visits ... hands on harvesting and animal feeding ... discussing farming issues with the farmers or simply ... walking a trail across the fields and through polytunnels ... creative storytelling

Who leads them? Visits can be self guided with an introduction from the farmer and then an exploration using farm information packs and trails or they can involve the skilled input from Love Local Food's Education Officer, from artists and educators linked with organicARTS and from Enthusiastic Education's storyteller and creative teacher!

How much does it cost? Self guided visits are free. Led visits cost between £3-£5 / head

Who are they for? We can work with nursery groups, primary schools, secondary schools and older learners.

Long term seasonal projects... If children understand where their food can come from and the journey that it goes on then they are more likely to make sustainable choices about what they eat. We feel that, whilst one off farm visits are valuable, if children build up a long term relationship with a farm then their understanding is far deeper. Both West Town Farm and The Barton are part of Natural England's Environmental Stewardship scheme. This gives payment for educational visits. Both farms are supporting long term links with schools and other groups giving a series of visits over time. Children can see seasonal change and engage in the changing farm activities.
