Volunteering and Learning at The Barton

Every Tuesday. 10.30 - 4.00 pm

Come along for as long as you wish and learn about the techniques and practices for growing organic vegetables on a commercial scale. Gain an understanding of the rotations, green manure and composting techniques for building fertility and learn about the varieties and planting schedules we use for continuity of supply. Meet outside the Shillingford Organics offices. Come suitably dressed and prepared for physical work. Lunch will be provided!

Love Local Food Outreach

The Love Local Food Van is visiting schools, community groups, health centres, places of work, churches and childrens centres in Exeter with a exciting range of food activities. This can include :

  • A powerpoint presentation about what Love Local Food are doing and why.
  • Talks about different aspects of Love Local Food as requested by host organisations ie/ organic farming, bread making, macrobiotics, food miles etc
  • Practical workshops ie. Cookery, growing, art work related to produce on the van.
  • Exploring the Love Local Food van with activites for children to do
  • The chance for people to buy produce should they wish.

    • February's vegetable of the month is .... the Black Radish Explore cooking, creative activity and stories in one of our outreach sessions.

    A Celebration of Local Food

    Discover the farm and find out about local food initiatives - Meet the Producers and other Organisations

    Our evening will include: Tractor/Trailer Rides, Farm Trail with Points of Interest such as BeeKeeping, Chickens, Scything Demonstration. Welly-Wanging Competition, Food Activities, Story Telling, Games, Stalls, and enjoy delicious local produce at our BBQ
